Leaf In Four

Leaf In Four

This semi-abstract photomontage is an image of a plant in my garden. The source photo was composited with various textures then processed into a series of false color images. Sometimes the technique can produce beautiful results.

This particular image is no longer a photo the alterations are far too extensive. I’m not sure what category it fits other than perhaps graphic art.

Evidence of Life

Abandoned Ranch House

Most of us are caught up in our urban lives and the pressing decisions of the day. There is another America where millions of people live happy productive lives closer to the land. Being city dwellers we don’t see this other world except to know that somehow they feed and clothe us. Next time you take a drive in the country, step out of your SUV and experience the other America. It is worth a look.

Form and Function

Form and Function

Lately I’ve reading about the influence of Bauhaus on modern design. It is everywhere in our daily lives. The philosophy of form following function seems natural to us today but that was not always the case. Someone or rather some group of people had to bring those ideas into industrial practice. Mostly we can thank Bauhaus for that. The school itself only existed from 1919 to 1933 but the brilliant individuals who taught and learned there made the modern world.

What does Bauhaus have to do with a highway overpass? Probably nothing except as you can see it is great example of form and function. The design is purely functional with no extra elements beyond those needed to get the job done. To my eye the spare construction has a certain beauty and modern aesthetic.
